How to Create an Effective Squeeze Page With These 7 Tips

A squeeze page, or landing page, is one of the most vital parts of an email marketing business. The main goal is to get your visitors to enter their email address and subscribe to your mailing list. This is part of list building.

After list building, you have the opportunity to build a long-term relationship with your subscribers. There are other parts of the business, like driving traffic and strategic follow-ups, but in this article I’ll just focus on the Squeeze Page.

This is a single page where your visitors determine if they want to opt in or browse out. Creating a page using an html program is simple, but structuring one that is effective is crucial.

Many internet marketers do not achieve high acceptance rates due to some common mistakes. Now I will share the techniques for an effective Squeeze Page that avoids those mistakes.

  1. Do not include any external links.
I have seen too many people make this mistake. Remember that the sole purpose of a Squeeze Page is to get subscriptions, not to distract your visitors by sending them to someone else’s website!
  2. Presell your free offers
People will not give out their email address for no reason. They only do it when they get something valuable in return. We will normally offer a free gift which can be in the form of reports, audio, videos or a subscription.

Notice I used the word “valuable.” In Marketing, perception is more important than reality. Free stuff is generally associated with being of low quality. So you need to pre-sell your offer even when it’s free!

  3. create urgency
People tend to react a certain way when an item is limited. Just adding a simple message like “Only 25 of 100 copies left” or “Site will close after 24 hours” will create the urgency for them to act.

What you really want is for them to enter that email and click the send button, giving you plenty of time to build that relationship in the future. You certainly don’t want them to see your page, and they take the time to decide while slowly forgetting it even existed.

  4. Use visual aids
There is this VAK theory commonly used in sales. This also applies to online marketing. While it is not possible to use kinesthetic factors, we want to focus on enhancing the visual and auditory effects.

Having a page with text and graphics only involves the visual element. Trust me; You’ll see a higher engagement rate when using a video clip, which has the ability to interact both visually and aurally.

  5. Just ask for what you need
This is another common error found in many Squeeze Pages. What are the chances that I will pick up my gift if I just ask for your name and email, compared to if I ask you to write a 100 word bio?

You only need 2 pieces of information: name and email address.

In fact, you can do it with just email. So, skip the rest of the fields like age, gender, geographic location, etc. You can get them after they have subscribed to your list.

  6. Do not transmit the attention of your visitors
You only need 3 elements on the page: a title, benefits and a subscription form.

I have seen many pages that try to overload visitors with too much information. There are colorful texts, long and voluminous messages, videos and images all over the page. Your visitors will be lost and uncooperative.

Remember that you only want to grab their attention with a strong headline. Then you hold their attention using the benefits section and a call to action via the signup form. That is all!

  7. Great subscription form
The subscription form should always be in the top right corner of the page. The reason is simple. Most of the action happens there, since we are all conditioned by the scroll bar while viewing web pages.

More importantly, your subscription form must be large enough to grab their attention. Use a simple but strong graphic that represents a call to action. Direct instructions prompting them to enter their email address and a button to continue.

Lastly, always test your capture page, making sure it links to your database. The last thing you want is a perfect squeeze page with a broken link that doesn’t capture anything after your visitors subscribe.

With these 7 tips, you are sure to see an increase in your Squeeze Page engagement rate.
