The Thanksgiving holiday evokes thoughts of deciding which in-laws’ house to visit without creating a war, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, soccer games, and intertwined scents of turkey and apple pie.
This year, although gas prices are much lower than in previous years, there is still the economy of if your family is on a plane trip, not just in a car. Unfortunately, many people who often take a short flight to visit family members choose to stay closer to home. In fact, many college students who would normally return home for the extended weekend are struggling to find friends near campus to stay with.
For those of you who will not be at the family table this year, you will still want to create a presence so that you are not forgotten. There are so many options that you can choose to be “almost” part of the meeting. There’s the phone call, a live webcam connection, an instant message, a text message, a twitter, a card, or flowers. However, why not send something that is not only pleasing to the eye, but can be enjoyed by everyone throughout the day?
Send a gift basket. There are so many lovely gift baskets to choose from: a fall themed gift, gourmet food gift baskets, Thanksgiving cookie bouquets, turkeys made from lollipops, even a movie themed gift basket that can be enjoyed by the youngest grandson to his great-grandmother. !
And for those of you whose college students won’t be coming home this Thanksgiving, why not send in a packet of goodies? … there’s the traditional college care package, a traditional Thanksgiving gift basket, gourmet chocolate gifts, cookie bouquets, and much more. After all, they are your little ones too. It wasn’t that long ago that kids were fighting over who got the turkey legs.
So this year, when the whole family can’t be together for Thanksgiving break, send a gift. But don’t just send a gift, send a keepsake. you will be happy you did.
