The 4 Habits of Successful Exam Candidates

Let’s quickly put genius or talent aside. I have met people who perennially perform below average despite the fact that they are apparently gifted with academic talent. At the same time, in the 16 years I have spent preparing private adult candidates for the West African Higher Schools Examination (WASSCE), I have come across some really talented students and some not so talented ones who achieve extraordinary results.

What I can tell you is that there are certain habits that separate high performers from below average or disappointingly low performers. Below is a list of four such garments for the most outstanding candidates in any exam.

1. They have and follow a study strategy.

Candidates who achieve brilliant grades plan for them. They spend enough time on such things as preparing a personal study schedule, what parts of the syllabus they need to focus on, how to address their weak areas, and how to make sure they can use their time more efficiently in the exam room. . They hardly leave anything to chance.

2. They start preparation for the exam much earlier than most candidates.

In this way, they can do a detailed study of most, if not all, of the topics in the syllabus.

3. They hardly ever complain about their tutors or the examining board.

Another way of expressing this is to say that successful candidates have a habit of taking personal responsibility for their performance. For them, the final decider of their success or not in the exam is neither the teacher nor the examiner. are they

Therefore, instead of wasting time blaming others for any perceived difficulties they may be facing, they take determined steps to help themselves.

4. Successful candidates repeatedly practice answering questions as part of their preparation.

Candidate A or B or even C has this special habit that helps him go ahead and perform what his colleagues may consider wonders. Knowing that practicing what is expected of them on the exam beforehand is the best form of preparation, they spend much of the weeks and months leading up to the exam answering the standard exam questions. They try and try again to answer previous questions. They time themselves as if they were right there in the exam room.

Not in vain, they are one of those who do not let themselves be defeated by time or go astray in answering any question.

These are just four of the useful habits of any candidate destined for success.

Do you want to do well on that next test or interview? If your answer is yes, I urge you to adopt the above habits and you will not be disappointed with your results.
