Send In The Clowns – Planning The Perfect Clown-Themed Toddler Party

Planning a clown-themed party for young children is so much fun. To start, send out clown-covered invitations that say something like “Come clown for Stephen’s 5th birthday!” One good thing about clown themed parties is that they attract both boys and girls. There’s no reason not to invite each other’s friends to the party, as everyone can share in the fun.

As the leader of the clowns, you can dress up in the silliest clown costume you can find with lots of brightly colored clothes, big shoes, and some kind of funny wig. Options to do with the children include giving each one a clown nose or painting their faces with clown faces or other designs. Take a photo of each of them that you can print as a souvenir of the day’s fun activities.

Games can include a bean bag toss through the clowns’ mouths. Paint a huge clown with a big grin on a large piece of cardboard and have the kids throw a bean bag at him for him to shove into his mouth. Pinning the nose on the clown is a great departure from pinning the tail on the donkey. You may want to collect a wide variety of clown wigs, shoes, gloves, and even necklaces and put them in a large trunk so the kids can pick out their own clown costumes as part of the day’s activities. You can tell them that they’ve come to clown camp, and then switch from dressing up to a game of Simon Says, so they can learn “like clowns” to follow directions. The more involved they feel like clowns, the more fun they will have.
