The Best Ice Creams on the Beaches

On a hot Florida summer day, nothing beats an ice cream cone, drizzled with melt-in-your-mouth hot fudge, caramel, or, for kids at heart, and kids in general, sprinkles. And for those who live or vacation in Treasure Island, Florida, it’s no different. For that reason, we’ve explored the Pinellas beaches at the southern end of the gulf to bring you in-depth information on the best ice cream spots in the area.

A longtime fixture in St. Pete Beach, Larry’s offers the kind of old-fashioned ice cream parlor found in few places these days. Offering more than 80 flavors, including frozen yogurt and 10 flavors of low-fat and no added sugar options, as well as 94% fat ice cream, Larry’s offers something for everyone, even those watching their waistlines. Your best bet: Belgian waffle ice cream or a heavenly peanut butter parfait.

candy paradise
Located on Pass-a-Grille Beach, Paradise Sweets is not only known for its frozen goodness, but also for its coffee, with the rich, bold flavor of espresso creating a truly aromatic experience for customers. Featuring Working Cow ice cream, it’s served ultra thick and creamy, just the way you like it. With 28 ice cream flavors and a plethora of unique organic roasted coffees, Paradise Sweets isn’t just an ice cream parlor, it’s your neighborhood coffee shop!

super scoops
Located on Gulf Boulevard in Treasure Island, this is the place to go for an oversized chocolate milkshake or banana split! Personally, I prefer the Brownie Sundae, topped with homemade hot chocolate. The portions are huge, and it’s a family owned and operated business, so they are more than accommodating to customers and offer some of the lowest prices on the beach. They also offer low-fat and low-sugar options. Voted the best of the beaches by Beach Life, and is within walking distance of several Treasure Island hotels.

candy kitchen
Located on the edge of Madeira Beach, not far from some of the quieter Treasure Island condominiums, is the legendary Candy Kitchen family store. Candy Kitchen has been making homemade ice cream and treats since 1950. My personal favorite is the Butter Pecan or the Space Ice Cream made with marshmallows! Go on a diet? It is not to worry. The Maple Nut flavor is low in calories and still very delicious. If you want a little fudge, try the Homemade Maple Turtle or Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge. They are both simply delicious! While parking is a bit of a hassle, it’s a short walk from Treasure Island Condo Hotels. Plus, who said taking a leisurely walk on the beach was a bad thing?
