Peter was convicted of murdering 13 women and attacking several more. His crimes were committed between 1975 and 1980. At his trial, he claimed that a voice he heard ordered him to kill the woman while he was working as a gravedigger. He said that the voice of God came from the grave of Bronislaw Zapolski. Despite attempts by his lawyer to have him declared unfit for trial, Judge Boreham ruled that he should be tried by a jury. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. However, in 1984 he was sent to Broadmoor Hospital after being diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Ted Bundy, the notorious serial killer, was born on November 24, 1946, the son of Louise Cowell. John Wayne Gacy was convicted of killing 33 young people. Many of his victims were found buried in his basement or under his garage. His last victims were found in a river because, as he said, he was running out of places to put the bodies in his house and all the digging was bothering his back. During his trial, Gaccy was quoted as saying the only crime he was guilty of was “running a cemetery without a license.” He was executed by lethal injection on May 10, 1994 at the Statesville Correctional Center.

DeSalvo was never tried for the Boston Strangler crimes. He confessed to the crimes while in jail awaiting trial for numerous rapes and robberies. He could detail many facets of the murders. However, there were numerous inconsistencies and no actual evidence that he had committed the crimes. He was found guilty of rape and assault and sentenced to life in prison. He was stabbed to death in 1973 while in jail. Since then, DNA evidence has shown that he was not responsible for at least some of the Boston Strangler’s crimes.
