New products: avant-garde or avant-garde?




We all love being on the cutting edge of technology. When you have the confidence of a tech-oriented mind, it’s especially nice to try out the latest and greatest networking products. However, ordering new products before they are tested can sometimes be the wrong idea. It can cost your business, so be careful!

The cutting edge of technology is also known as the cutting edge. Manufacturers almost always face unexpected design, production, and logistics challenges with new product lines, including new network equipment.

Can you imagine a critical switch, router or firewall failing due to bad power supply or continually rebooting? We see these problems all the time. Many new products have the same potential and are like a time bomb, meaning your time and energy is wasted on a problem that should have been solved by the manufacturer and not by you.

When are the problems fixed? Many problems with new network equipment are resolved when they first arise. Some problems are never solved. Instead, you may have a workaround or recall. Meanwhile, who knows how many

Unless you absolutely have to, don’t look for new network equipment as soon as it’s announced. Give them time to settle in the market and for problems to arise.

Of course, there may be compelling reasons for you to specify a completely new network equipment product – product features essential to your application and not available elsewhere, for example. You shouldn’t risk becoming an unpaid product tester for a manufacturer, especially if you’re pressed for time or have limited budgets, a small network team, or a mission-critical network. Let someone else do it.

In all aspects of business, time is one of the most valuable assets you have at your disposal. And wasting it is one of the costliest mistakes you can make. Just as jumping on the wrong bandwagon can cost you dearly in terms of lost time, it can also make you specify a new, untested network equipment product.
