Would you like to go horse racing or OTB and pick exactos that pay well and hit often? Of course you would, who wouldn’t? The problem is that the exact ones are not easy to hit. It seems that if you play an exact box, then one of your horses sneaks in first and another third, while another horse sneaks in for second, right? If you only play a straight exacta, then the horse you chose to win comes in second and your second horse wins! If you boxed two horses, one will win but the other will be on the track and your blood pressure will skyrocket.
We’ve all been through the above scenario and that’s why no matter how hard we try, we just can’t seem to make any money playing exactas. But every day, rain or shine, the exact pools are full of money and it is one of the most popular bets. The reason for this is that the exactas are a lot of fun to play and they pay better than winning bets. So how do you quickly and easily choose the exact winners?
First of all, let me say that this method is not guaranteed to work all the time or make a profit. However, I can tell you that it will put the odds on your side to achieve more exact. The reason is the statistics. Which horse wins the most races? The favourite, of course. Which horse wins the second most races. Let’s try the second favourite.
Knowing that, which horses should be your best bets for exactas if you really want to win? Simply typing the first two horses will give you the first horse in the exact, about 50%-60% of the time. Do you want to have the winning horse 70% of the time or more? Just throw the third favourite. The fact is that the winner is in the top three favorites 70-80% of the time.
If you don’t believe it, just check some charts. You’ll find they do a little better on Saturdays and holidays, too. So we’ve figured out where to look for our best horse. The next problem is to find a second horse to complete the exact one. This is how I like to find a horse or two to put under my key horse. I look at the morning line odds and also the tote board odds within five minutes of posting.
I also look at the percentage of money finishes each horse has. I arrive at that figure by submerging the number of times the horse finished second or third by the total number of races. The higher the percentage of second and third places, the better the chances that the horse will work its way to the exacta.
Next, I find a horse that is in the top five horses at odds that has the highest or second highest percentage of money results. I play one or two of these horses for second place. This not only generates a high hit rate, but also brings some nice payout exactas. Your best horse is a high percentage horse and so is the second horse and both have a statistical advantage based on their odds. It’s an easy way to find good exact bets, but remember, all games of chance are risky, so never bet more than you can afford to lose.
