BMW’s M3 is more than just a sports sedan—it’s an icon, a legend that has earned global fanfare and set the benchmark for an entire segment. Its latest iteration, a 2021 model wearing controversial styling, continues to build upon that reputation with even more power and performance.
The M3 is powered by an upgraded version of the 3 Series’ turbocharged inline-six engine, generating an impressive 430 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to propel the M3 from 0 to 60 in just a hair over four seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph.
That kind of prowess requires some special equipment, including a reworked suspension that delivers a more connected and communicative feel, especially when driven hard. The M3 also has an aptly named sport exhaust that lets it roar with authority and adds to the already engaging driving experience.

The GTS is also a little lighter than the M3 thanks to carbon fiber trim, a thinner roof panel and polycarbonate rear windows.
The GTS is a fairly rare car, with just 20 examples produced. To commemorate this limited production run, BMW gave each GTS a unique color scheme and a laser-engraved dash/engine strut that denotes its exclusivity. It also comes equipped with the Competition Package.
As for the fuel economy, the M3 is rated at 16 city and 23 highway mpg for a combined 19 mpg. That’s not bad for such a powerful car, but you will probably see those numbers shrink quickly when you push it to its limits.
The 2023 BMW M3 has a 15.6-gallon fuel tank that should give you a decent amount of range on a trip, depending on how much time is spent driving on the highway. For reference, the EV models have 10.6-gallon tanks that allow for a far greater range when driven on the highway.
The M3’s price tag is a bit steep, but it comes fully loaded with comfort and tech features. You get a super-wide 14.9-inch display, heated electric seats with memory, a Harmon/Kardon audio system and wireless phone charging. BMW’s value-packed Executive Package is also available, adding a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and start, a heads-up display, remote engine start, a power tailgate and more. For connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard no matter which model year you choose.
