Warehouse Temperature Mapping Explanation

Temperature mapping is the process of recording and mapping temperature in three-dimensional space. You may think that in a small refrigerator, a large cold room, a freezer or a warehouse the temperature would be the same everywhere, but you will be surprised to know that the temperature can vary by up to 10 ° C from one place to another.

Most likely, the temperatures in the corners will be different than those in the center of the space being measured. We all know that cold air sinks and hot air rises, so it goes without saying that the temperature at the bottom of a cold room will likely be different than the temperature at the top of the cold room.

There are also “specific areas” within the cold room where the temperature will also differ, such as: next to the cooling fans where the temperature will be cooler or near the doors where it is likely to be warmer.

Why is it important to make a temperature map of your cold storage area?

The effectiveness of the product depends on the products being stored correctly. Fruits and vegetables that have been stored in an area that are too cold can freeze and damage them; Vaccines that are stored in a refrigerator can get too hot or cold and reduce / destroy the effectiveness of medications. Ensuring that all locations within the refrigerated area are within the correct temperature range is critical to maintaining product quality.

Temperature mapping and temperature monitoring are an integral part of storing goods such as food and medicine.

How to perform a temperature mapping?

Data loggers must be strategically placed within three-dimensional space to map temperatures across a horizontal, vertical, and depth plain, as well as locations likely to have temperature variations.

Temperature monitoring should be done within a normal business day rather than a weekend, as the internal temperature of the space will vary depending on how many times the cold room or warehouse doors are opened and closed. Ideally, you should use an experienced temperature mapping company to ensure your temperature controlled storage area is properly mapped, followed by placing data loggers and sensors in the correct locations (warmest and coldest) for a continuous monitoring.

CoolPac specializes in Temperature Mapping and helps companies install a quality data recording system that meets the requirements of authorities such as HACCP or TGA.
