The Epic T60 Treadmill Recall

The Epic T60 is a line of treadmills manufactured by the ICON Fitness company. The Epic Treadmills T60 model was recalled as a result of assembly issues in August 2005.

Available for purchase exclusively from wholesale retail mogul, Costco, ICON’s Epic Treadmills T60 is a form of exercise equipment that is commonly priced under a thousand dollars. Other Epic treadmills are the 450 MX, 600 MX, 800 MX, and 1000 MX. The Epic T60 folding treadmill was designed especially for a home gym, but is equipped for use in sports training and light to heavy exercise routines. The Epic T60 treadmill motor is warranted for twelve years. The frame of the unit is guaranteed for fifteen years. Parts and labor are covered by the warranty for one year.

The Epic T60 treadmill has a 3HP commercial grade continuous duty motor. The unit’s walking platform measures eight by sixty, with a PWM controller. Users train on a commercial two-ply belt. The front and rear rollers on the 2.5-inch treadmills adjust for up to 12 percent incline. There are six LED window displays and digital controls. Like traditional treadmills, the Epic T60 does not require the use of your arms.

With a padded deck that can be adjusted, as well as a large-surface deck that can support up to 130kg, the Epic T60 treadmill has a powerful motor, pulse sensor meters, and incline power as its biggest selling points. Epic T60 treadmills monitor features such as time, distance, calories burned, speed, and pulse.

Pre-programmed exercise routines are popular services associated with the Epic model T60 treadmill. There are ten preset programs, two pulse programs, and two user-defined programs. IFit technology, an exclusive accessory for ICON gear, is a staple on the Epic T60 treadmill. IFit helps users control vital elements of exercise like speed and incline. Home stereos, personal computer systems, MP3 players, IPODS and other home technology can be connected to the T60 in hopes of adding image and sound to a training plan.

In August 2005, ICON Fitness, the company behind the award-winning NordicTrack line of fitness equipment, was faced with concerns about the safety of the Epic Treadmills T60 model, particularly when assembly instructions were not followed correctly. There were reports of minor foot injuries as well as property damage. The company recalled approximately sixteen thousand models of the treadmill.
