Power Scrapping Scheme – Do You Qualify?

What is the boiler scrapping regime?

The idea of the boiler scrapping plan is to help reduce our carbon footprint. The boiler scrapping scheme received the go-ahead from Gordon Brown this week. The scrapping program will allow more than 125,000 households to apply for a £400 discount on the cost of an A-rated boiler, provided the household has a working G-rated boiler installed. The Energy Saving Trust is in charge of the boiler scrapping scheme.

Not only is this a good investment for a new boiler, but it is also a good investment in the long term, as it could save you up to £235 a year. Grade A boilers are now 90% efficient compared to the old G grade boilers that were considered inefficient. If 125,000 households took advantage of the boiler scrapping plan, it would be equivalent to taking 45,000 cars off our roads.

Who qualifies for the grant?

Only English landlords and homeowners will be eligible for the scheme. The scheme will work on a first-come, first-served basis until all 125,000 spaces have been filled. The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland governments are solely responsible for if, when and how these boiler scrapping schemes will work.

Should I apply?

The answer to that is yes. We know it’s not plain and simple as it will still cost you a few hundred pounds to get your new boiler and have it installed by a corgi registered professional engineer. However, if you can afford it? It is definitely an opportunity not to be missed. Not only will you save €400 on the purchase and installation of the boiler. You’ll also save on your annual energy bills. Not to mention doing your part in reducing carbon emissions by 140,000 tons per year.

It is reported that there are around 4.5 million G-rated boilers still in operation in the UK. 1.8 million of these are back boilers that until now did not have A-rated boilers to replace them.
