Most Popular Browser MMORPG Games

Browser MMORPGs are becoming increasingly popular among avid online gamers. There are many reasons for this, but the most common one might be the wide variety of free multiplayer MMORPG games that game makers are releasing lately. Adventure, fantasy, and science fiction are just a few of the genres that offer gamers a virtually endless supply of online fun. Just as game genres vary, so does their popularity among gamers. So which MMORPG browser games are the most played browser MMO games of all? Here’s a look at the top three.

runescape

RuneScape holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular free-to-play MMORPG game and has over ten million active registered accounts in one hundred and thirty different countries. RuneScape’s story is based on the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor, which is divided into different regions. Each region features a new and challenging list of quests that players must complete to advance to the next. What’s especially nice about RuneScape is that there’s no set story or goal. Players can chart their own course in the game by choosing which missions and quests to complete using one of several customizable avatars. Multiplayer interaction in RuneScape is encouraged through different player vs. player challenges, chat, trade, and other activities in the world. Instead of progressing through levels and ranks like in most other online browser MMORPGs, RuneScape players gain and upgrade various abilities throughout the game that allow them to perform missions they weren’t equipped for before. . There are twenty-four abilities for players in RuneScape and each ability is rated from one to 99, at which point an ability is considered “mastered”.

Travian

Travian is one of several multiplayer role-playing games that require players to create and manage their own town or village. In Travian, players start out as the leader of a Roman-themed town with only one other inhabitant. By farming, building, and completing other village-related tasks, players gain different game levels that allow them to further expand their village. Travian’s goal is to build a Wonder of the World using the resources produced by the town itself. To help them reach this goal faster, players can form alliances with other players in the game and work together towards a common goal.

evonio

Evony is another empire-building game that works in the same way as Travian, except it’s based on medieval times. In Evony, players can attack other players for resources and since the game is real-time based, Evony’s world continues to spin when players go offline. Evony has its own currency system where players can earn gold by completing levels in the game or by selling resources and items to other players. Players can optionally invest real money into the game and purchase “in-game pennies” which can be used to purchase higher level items in the in-game shop. Players compete in rankings based on prestige. Prestige Points are awarded for everything you do in the world, from building to completing quests to engaging in combat missions with other players.
