Keep your hair weave or hair extensions on vacation

Hair weave on vacation…

The snow has finally thawed and the summer vacation season is here. Whether you’re heading to South Florida, cruising to a Caribbean island, or traveling abroad, fabulous hair is a must-have accessory to accompany your bikini body. After months of work to have a perfect body, why ruin your look with a baseball cap, a scarf or, even worse, a scrungie? (Oh!)

The southern beaches will be very hot and humid this year. You can count on temperatures in the 90Ëš with high humidity; this will be a killer for your relaxed hairstyles. The best way to deal with this is to get a wavy (sewn-in) wet hair weave. Maintenance is surprisingly low, after cleansing and towel-drying your hair, you can wear it wavy. If you want to look chic for a night of dancing, once your hair is dry you can straighten it with a flat iron or use flexible curling irons for a voluminous spiral look. You can go from the pool to the nightclub with minimal time spent on your hair, after all, you are on vacation!

I know what you’re thinking… after spending so much money preparing for the trip. Who has money for a sewn fabric? Answer: You can request The Ultimate Hair Weave Guide from Amazon for step-by-step instructions on how to properly install and maintain your own hair weave. It’s a lifesaver. I used this process last year while traveling abroad and was the only one in my group who looked just as fabulous on the flight to Europe as I did on the flight home. After the fourth day of our ten-day trip, everyone else was wearing baseball caps and scarves. And let’s face it, there’s no way to look sophisticated in a baseball cap.

Take a look at the following tips to help maintain your holiday hairstyle:

1. Wet your hair before swimming. The best way to protect your hair from fading and blow-dry damage that salt water and chlorine can cause is to saturate your hair with water and add a layer of conditioner before you get in the water. Hair can only absorb so much water, so it’s better if it’s not chlorine or salt water.

2. Clean your hair immediately after taking a bath. You can’t just remove excess water from your hair after swimming. Both salt and chlorine can strip hair of essential lubricants. Make sure you wash your hair with a conditioning shampoo or sometimes I skip shampooing and do a co-wash (cleansing with conditioner only) to prevent further drying of the hair. I love Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner, even though I am not a “mixed girl”, the hair on my head is most likely “mixed”.

3. Air dry instead of blow drying. Frequent blow-drying can be very hard on hair.

4. Sleep with a silk or satin scarf. This will prevent breakage and make combing the next morning easier.

Have a good trip!
