How many miles is a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and a Marathon?

Running 5k is becoming a widespread goal for many beginning runners. It’s a duration race that, with some consistent training, almost anyone could train to run in as little as 6-8 weeks. But how many miles is a 5k, and how long will it take the average runner to complete one?

I have created a list below of all the major race distances, although some organizers create their own distances and routes, most road races will fit into one of the following categories:-

5k run = 3.1 miles.

Most beginning runners will take an average time to finish a 5K run of 30 to 40 minutes.

10k run = 6.2 miles

The typical time it takes to do a 10K run is 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Half marathon = 13.1 miles, 21.7 kilometers

A respectable time it takes to do a half marathon is 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

Marathon = 26.2 miles, 41.2 kilometers

The average time it takes runners to complete a marathon is 4 to 5 hours.

5k runs have become a very popular way for charities to raise both funds and awareness for their particular causes. Many people choose charities that have a particular value to them, for example they may have lost a relative or friend to a certain illness or know someone who is battling an illness.

5k races are the shortest distances for beginners to participate in, but you still need to be fully prepared. The truth is, most people are physically capable of running a 5K, but they don’t simply because they don’t follow the correct training advice. If you’ve often wondered ‘how many miles is a 5k’ and are thinking of getting off the couch to run a 5k, then you should stick to a schedule truly designed for a beginner.
