Breakout Kings S01E03 – Bagman’s Review

Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the third episode of Breakout Kings, because you don’t want to spoil this episode by reading about it first.

It seems that the rumors were correct. Prison Break star Robert Knepper Aka T-bag made an appearance and I must admit it was amazing to see him again playing his once infamous role. What made this episode awesome was that we got to see more of the killer side of T-bag that we didn’t see in Prison Break in part because of Michael Scofield being able to control the monster.

Right from the start, they take us back to Fox River and we see T-Bag back in jail after the Fox River days. This time it is clear that this T-bag is different from the schemer we have become used to, this T-bag is a much more ruthless killer. At the beginning of the episode, T-bag is placed in a transport vehicle, but in a matter of minutes, T-bag takes out the 2 prison guards who transport him without hesitation.

It’s unclear from the outset if T-bag just wants to get out of jail and on the run again, or if he’s on a mission. As the episode progresses, we see that T-bag is indeed on a goal-induced mission that leads him to seek revenge against those who sexually assaulted his mother at a retirement facility.

Now I have always liked the character of T-bag and for some sick reason I have always wanted him to get away with his crimes, however, this time it seemed that his quest was to take revenge on those who did wrong to his family, what Which I’m sure many of us viewers can relate to as well, however I think US Marshal Charlie Duchamp summed it up best when he asked “what about the innocents he killed along the way?” This line, in my opinion, shows that T-bag has a heart, but it can turn into a monster when something needs to be done. My point is further reinforced when T-bag tells her mom, “I can’t join you in heaven, but you both enjoy it.”

However, the last minutes of this episode is where the show got really interesting. That’s when Lloyd has a chance to sit down with T-bag to analyze it. T-bag throws a big spiel at Lloyd by asking him what makes being a “case study” worthwhile and Lloyd calmly replies that there is nothing special about T-Bag and that it is simply a broken machine. To which T-Bag responds once Lloyd has left the room “no fuck”.

T-Bag confirms that he has always known he was broken and Lloyd confirmed that this created a perfect ending for the character that is T-bag.

Overall this episode was amazing, being a huge fan of prison breaks and a Robert Knepper fan meant I loved every second of “The Bag Man.”
