Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park is located in Alexander County, North Carolina. This park is friendly to ATV drivers, motorcycle riders, and UTV drivers and has been in business for several years. Most of the trails are marked in a way that prevents bikers from playing head-on, which is very nice. Bikers looking for tight trails are sure to feel at home here because they have plenty of trails designated just for them.
This park was chosen because of its great online reviews and because we needed an honest testing ground for the new Linhai-Yamaha 400 4×4 ATV. We unloaded quickly and went to the check-in station to pay the fee and sign the waivers that I like to call the “It’s not our fault if you get hurt or killed” papers. Attendees rushed over to check out our new Linhai Big Horn ATV and to make sure we had all the proper safety gear like helmets, riding boots and gloves.
Now that the formalities were out of the way, after the push of a button, the engine started with a throaty growl and I aimed the new ATV having never seen mud down the mountain trail before. The trail started out with a couple of jumps and quick turns on a moderate incline, but it was wide enough that it didn’t feel threatened. The trails were still dotted with big mud holes from the early spring rain and my fellow riders behind me will agree I made sure they used as much as I could spray them if they got too close to my ATV.
Further up the trails, conditions quickly changed from Beginner level to white and orange DANGER signs at every turn. Steep hill climbs combined with some very rocky terrain put my new ride to the test and I quickly engaged the four-wheel drive. It seemed to be pulling along pretty well until I hit a blind uphill turn where another rider was stuck right in the middle of the trail.
You must understand that this section of the trail was not a place to stop due to the degree of incline, and my Linhai ATV once stopped on the side of the mountain, stalled, and then began to rapidly roll downhill despite the brakes They were fully applied. I jumped out just in time before it rolled over the side and kept going until a tree stopped it 20 feet from the road. After several hours we got it running again and I cursed myself for being too cheap to add the winch option. I was really excited when it started up again with a push of the button, and the only damage was that the left rear plastic fender was broken and the rear metal grill was badly bent.
When I got back to the driveway, I took out the wrench and proceeded to add a part from my new ATV to the totem pole. I ordered a new fender and winch for him that night and plan to ride there again very soon.
