An introduction to the deciduous forest

As we all know, forests are very important to the earth and to humans. They can produce oxygen, clean the air, and provide a suitable place for animals to live and plants to grow. The deciduous forest is one of the beautiful natural landscapes in the world. In this article I will give you a brief introduction to deciduous forests.

Distribution

Temperate forests are widely distributed on earth, so they can be found on almost every continent. Many of the forests are found in the eastern half of North America. In Asia, we can also find some deciduous forests and the main areas include Japan and eastern China. There are also many of these forests located in South America, such as southern Chile and Paraguay.

Weather

The four seasons, spring, summer, fall, and winter, are quite different in deciduous forests. It is hot and sunny in the first two seasons when plants grow fast. In autumn, the leaves of the plants change color. Throughout the winter, all the leaves fall from the trees. The average temperature in the forests is about 50 degrees F. It rains a lot in a year and the average amount of precipitation is 30 to 60 inches.

Animals

There are several species that live in the forests of the biome and all the living ones form an ecosystem of harmony. The animals that live there are quite adapted to the climate. Due to the cold weather and lack of food, most of them will hibernate for the entire winter. Trees are the source of food and water for animals. The deciduous forest is really a comfortable place for these animals.

Plants

Tree types in deciduous forest regions include broadleaf, deciduous, and evergreen trees. Basically, the number of layers of plant growth in a temperate forest is usually 3 or 4. The top layer of plant growth is mainly made up of tall deciduous trees that prevent most of the sunlight from shining through. However, there is still sun reaching the forest floor and this provides the conditions for plants in other layers to grow. In the second layer there are many species of trees that are slightly shorter. Shrubs are generally included in the third layer. With the effect of warm sunlight in the first two seasons: spring and summer, herbs grow quite quickly and prosperity.
