An appreciation of Constantine Hering, the father of American homeopathy

In my search for alternative health methods, I was intrigued by the story of Constantine Hering. My research shows that it follows the path of many early physicians who made the decision to study and practice homeopathy after an amazing cure.

Constantine Hering was born in 1800 in Germany. When he was young, he was hired by a prominent physician to investigate the medical practice of the founder of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann. The underlying purpose was to question the legitimacy and perhaps discredit Samuel Hahnemann’s homeopathy.

During his research, Hering suffered a wound that became severely inflamed and infected. There was nothing the doctors could do. When the wound healed with homeopathic treatment, Hering had a dramatic change of heart about homeopathy. It was so profound that Hering quit his job, dropped out of college, and opened a homeopathic practice.

Hering soon moved to the United States, where he opened a practice and began conducting experiments and testing remedies. He later authored the popular classic homeopathic book:

The Symptoms Guide of our Materia Medica.

Hering went on to be highly influential in the spread of homeopathy, including observations of the healing process known as “Hering’s Law of Healing” which proceeds as follows:

or from top to bottom.

or from the inside out.

o From a more important organ to a less important one.

o In the reverse order of arrival.

Hering’s law determines whether health is getting better or worse.

Among his other contributions to homeopathy was the important homeopathic remedy “Lachesis” derived from the venom of the bushmaster snake which has cured many health problems.

Hering used nitroglycerin for heart problems 30 years before it was used in conventional medicine. Hering’s motto was. “The strength of sweetness is great.”

Without devoted men like Hering, who came from far countries to guide us, homeopathy would never have been born in America. I appreciate them. The American public is quickly recognizing the truth of homeopathy as the folly of synthetic nature is revealed. Homeopathy is nature in its purest essence, and offers a valid and legitimate model in alternative health care.
