Accra is the capital city of Ghana, the nation on the West African coast. The city of Accra is divided into two parts, namely the Greater Accra Region and the Accra Metropolitan District. Accra is the economic, administrative and communications center of Ghana. About 70% of the country’s manufacturing capacity is located in this district. Since 1877, Accra has been the capital of Ghana. Historic public buildings demonstrate the city’s transition from a 19th-century suburb to today’s modern metropolis.

Accra is historically known to have been founded by the Ga people in the 14th century. During its history, Accra has also served as a center of trade with the Portuguese and they built a small fort in the city at the time. However, this city remained under the influence of other European nations like Swedes, French, Dutch, Danes and British at different times and built these nationals also built their forts in Accra.
